Message from Pastor Leo

October 01 , 2007

For thee years now I’ve been exhorting you to read your Bible - to read it every day.  And once in a while I get an e-mail from someone who asks, “Where should I start reading in the Bible?” and I always suggest they start with the Gospel of John.

“Why would you tell people to start in the gospel of John, Pastor Leo?  Why don’t you have them start in the beginning of the Bible with Genesis?”  Because I know what’s going to happen.  They’re going to get to Leviticus and quit.  Even I have a hard time making it through Leviticus and I love the Lord!  And the stated purpose of the gospel of John is to bring people to Jesus; to enhance their relationship with Jesus: “But these are written, that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.  John 20:31

Jesus is the Messiah.  He’s the one the Jewish scriptures promised would come and triumph over the devil.  What happened to Adam and Eve, our parents, in the Garden of Eden?  They sinned, spiritual life was struck down, and they died.  Jesus is the one who will bring us to life again.  So, John says; I wrote these things that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.  And notice the second purpose; and that believing ye might have life through His name.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  John 1:1-4

Read that scripture again and say “Jesus” where ever you see “the Word.”  Isn’t that someone you want to know?  Isn’t that someone you want to know better?

The Bible promises that if you will be faithful in taking in the Word of God (Jesus), the Word of God (Jesus) will change your heart; it (He) will produce a different soul.  You will become invigorated and alive.  And more than that, Peter says, “we’re born again by the Word of God (Jesus) and that in being born again you will live eternally with God, in His Kingdom.”

You need to know this, to be certain about it.  I want people to see that the men and women of our Real Life Radio family know their stuff.  I want them to see Jesus (the Word) working in your life.  So I want you to know the Bible, and I want you to let the word of God make a difference in your life.  And, when your life is over and you’re lying in the casket, and we all come to remember you, I want everyone to say of you what was said of the disciples, “they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13

So read your Bible.  Read it every day.  And if you’ve not started yet, why don’t you pray about it, and then open your Bible to the Gospel of John.

May The Lord Jesus Christ Be Magnified!
